Why are Nouns Important?
Nouns are the building blocks of sentences! You can’t talk about anything without them. As you learn more nouns, you’ll be able to express more and more ideas in English.
Additional Helpful Content: Plurals!
Many nouns can be singular (meaning one) or plural (meaning more than one).
For most nouns, you just add an -s to make them plural:
- One dog -> Two dogs
- One table -> Three tables
- One sister -> Four sisters
We’ll learn more about plurals later, but it’s good to know this basic rule now!
Keep Learning about English Nouns!
Learning English takes time and practice, but every new word you learn is a step forward! Keep practicing these basic nouns, and you’ll be speaking English more confidently very soon.
Practice Makes Perfect
The best way to learn English nouns is to practice!
- Look around you: What nouns do you see right now? Say them out loud in English!
- Point and name: Point to your mother or father and say “mother” or “father.”
- Draw pictures: Draw a picture of a dog and write “dog” next to it.
- Flashcards: Make simple flashcards with the English word on one side and a picture or your native language word on the other.
